I passionately believe that poetry was written to be performed. Read alone it can be solitary and flat but it cries out to be read aloud, coming alive, and illuminated and in the sharing comes the joy. This programme is the fulfilment of a dream, an indulgent expression of a love of words, both prose and poetry, which has coloured my life in so many ways. Some people say that without a song they are incomplete, without a book, I am bereft.

For me poetry has been a life-long passion. A poem can comfort and console, it can be invigorating, and calming. There are so many emotions that poetry can evoke, and it can take you, in both time and space, to so many different places. This programme is all about sharing these experiences with you, during an hour which will introduce you to poets or poems you may never have heard of. The music, which accompanies the readings, helps to enhance the programmes iconic ambience.
