Hosepipe ban for Tameside

Posted on Wed 7 Jul 2010

The first six months of 2010 have been the driest since records began. The situation is so bad that it will take 4 inches (10cm) of rain before the reservoirs (such as those in the Longdendale valley, pictured) start to gain any water. Less than that will mean the ground just soaks it up.

It is because of this water company United Utilities is introducing a hosepipe ban.

From Friday morning, it will be illegal to use a hose to either:

  • water a garden

  • wash a car

The company is also asking us to look out for other ways of saving water, such as only using a washing machine on a full load, or turning the tap off when brushing teeth.
