Walking on Glass - Event Information

Meet the Tameside Countryside Rangers for an easy, three-hour countryside walk through one of the most fascinating areas of the Tame Valley, led by Brian Taylor, who has been a voluntary ranger for more than 30 years. Brian is an expert on the wildflowers, wildlife and history of this beautiful area - during the walk he will identify the flowers and birds of  Haughton Dale and tell of the foul murder of Thomas Ashton, whose family owned the largest mills in Hyde.
You'll also learn about the story of the  Flemish glass blowers of Glass House Fold, Haughton who founded a local glass-making industry. Furnaces were built and pit shafts were sunk within the confines of the hamlet and a drift mine at Dan Wood was driven into the valley side.

When: Sun 8 Aug 2010

Where: The walk begins and ends at the bottom car park on Apethorn Lane, Gee Cross (SK14 5DN)

Between: 13:00 and 16:00

Contact Information: Tameside Countryside Rangers: 0161 330 9613
